XM12(UNS S21800) is belonged to Austenite stainless steel. It's also called NITRONIC60 or N60. It's an alloy with many advantanges. In the beginning, the XM-12 was designed as a high temperature alloy which has good high temperature reistance and the environmental temperature can be reached to 1800℉. Its' oxidation resistance is close to 309 stainless steel, and better than 304S stainless steel. And, this material is most famous for its' abrasion and wear resistance properties.  

     In addition to chromium and nickel, the metal components of the XM12 is also added  a lot of  manganese and silicon. This changes its' structure characteristics and causes twice the strehgth and hardness as the 304 stainless steel. The speciality is to reduce the overall abrasion when the XM12 couples with other metals. 

     When considering in higher temperature, good abrasion resistance, and to avoid abrasion problem, the XM12 is really a good choice. If compared to using STELLITE Cobalt 6B alloy, it has the advantages in cost saving and  processing convenience. XM12 usually applies in the valve stem, seats and trim, fasteners, filters, pins, bushings, roller bearings, pump shafts, and wear ring. Other applicatoins include wear plate, guide way and other.
